Repo! The Genetic Opera

Cole and I spent my birthday weekend in Salt Lake.  We headed down around noon on Friday.  We went to the Gateway, had lunch, and shopped.  Later, we checked into our hotel room (Little America...we love it there!), then went down to the Fashion Place mall to do a little more shopping.  We went out for a nice dinner at The Bombay House, and then we hung out in our room for awhile until it was time to go.

Because the main reason we were staying overnight in SLC was to see  a shadowcast of Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Repo! is a "goth" opera.  It's music is rock and roll bordering on heavy metal, with some real opera mixed in.  The music is superb if you can appreciate the genre.  The story is fascinating...in the future, organ failure rate is very high and catastrophic to the human race.  A company called Geneco manufactures organs, and offers them on payment plans.  However, if you're 90 days past due, they send the Repo man to come repossess....

We've gone for the last 2 years.  This year was better than last year...it seems it's finally coming into it's own.  This year, I also got some excellent pictures...my camera keeps proving over and over how good it is in low light.

It was so much fun, I already can't wait to go back when they do it again next year.  After the show, we spent the night in Salt Lake, and headed back to Ogden in the morning.  I wasn't able to get my entire Saturday shift off, so I had to be back.

I had a great Birthday...35's been pretty good to me so far!!

My Wild, Wonderful Weekend!

It's been quite the weekend! Between my birthday and Memorial Day, it's been tons of fun.

It was my weekend to work, so I took time off on Friday and Saturday. Of course, I then made the mistake of scheduling my on call shift on Thursday night...hoping I wouldn't get called in. No such luck, I ended up having to work a crazy, busy night.

I went home Friday morning and crashed. I woke around 11, and started getting everything together for our little mini-trip. We dropped the kids off at my Brother and Sister-in-laws around 2:30 (thanks!) and headed to Salt Lake....

Our First priority was to get tickets. We wanted to go see a shadow cast of "Repo! The Genetic Opera", a heavy metal opera that we LOVE. It was playing at the Tower Theater in SLC at midnight. We got our tickets, then went to check into our hotel. We stayed at Little America, one of our very favorite places to stay. We made our dinner reservation at the Little America Steakhouse, and headed out shopping.

We first went up to Trolley Square. We love to poke around in all their specialty stores. Cole ended up finding a possible solution to one of his "Halloween" issues, but I didn't find anything, and since the weather decided to clear up, we went down to the Gateway. I had birthday money to spend, along with a gift card from American Eagle. I found some cute T-shirts and a cute cardigan at AE. We poked into a couple other stores that I like, and at Ann Taylor Loft, I found the cutest dress...and to make it even better, everything in the store was 40% off. It was a great shopping trip...

There was some kind of exhibition going on at the Gateway...

We enjoyed watching all the tricks we got to see....

Aren't we cute? :)

We went back to our hotel to relax for a bit before our dinner reservation. Dinner was wonderful...as always. After some downtime, we headed up to wait in line...

The shadowcast was really fun...the actors did a great job, but I did think the Emcee did a little too much commenting.

We didn't get home until almost 3am, and we both crashed. We slept in a little, then headed home.

Later, after naps all around, we headed out to Lagoon. It was relatively quiet, we had a great time.

We headed home in time to get Kyle to his friend's house...they were going to play night games. HE had a great time...I was traumatized when his friend's german shepard bit me when I went to pick him up....I have an impressive bruise going on just below my right elbow...and I'm pretty lucky it wasn't worse.

Sunday I had to work...and it was a nice, quiet night. Mostly.

Yesterday I went with my Mom and Grandparents to put flowers on graves. We had a fun time, and I heard a lot of stories about my deceased relatives.

Now, it's the first REAL day of summer vacation. It's been a pretty low key day here....The kids have been relaxed, and I'm starting to catch up on my housework...and it's back to work tonight.
