August 10th

Who are these kids?
From August 2010

Only 19, so very young for the important decision they were making. A little on the stubborn side, convinced that they were right, that no matter the odds, their young ages, or other issues aside, it was the right thing to do. The right time to do it.

Oh, and those two steady kids were right.

15 years, 2 houses, 3 kids, 2 cats, more fish than we can count. It's been 15 years since I married my very best friend for Time and All Eternity in the Bountiful Temple. It was a very windy, very hot August day, but all I remember was the laughter, and my best friend by my side as we started our life together. I don't regret one minute (ok, maybe I could have done without some of the stresses, but then I'd be giving up the triumph of overcoming them!).

From August 2010

I thought this picture said it all at the time, but now it shows only a fraction of the love and devotion we have for each other.

Happy Anniversary. I Love You. It's been the best 15 years of my life, and I'm looking forward to all the ones to come.

A Baby Shower...

Last night we (me, my mom, and Brenda) threw a baby shower for my sister Heidi. It's been a really long road for Heidi to find the right guy, and start her family, and I just have to say...I am so thankful that Adam came into our family. He is such a great guy, and such a wonderful husband to Heidi. After all the years of watching my sister date guys not worthy of her, I am SOOOOOO glad she and Adam found each other.

Now they've taken the next step, and baby Logan is due in about 5 weeks. I love to throw a party, so it was really fun to put a baby shower together with my Mom and Brenda.

I was in charge of dessert. Like my mom, I don't love to cook, but I do love to bake. Add that to Mindy's influence, and I've discovered that I like to make the presentation as pretty as the baked goods are yummy.
I made our family recipe chocolate chip cookies, which are always a hit, and mini cupcakes.
From August 2010
I decided to try a new recipe for the batter...something specifically for cupcakes. It was really good....and even this morning when I indulged in 2 cupcakes for breakfast, was still really moist and yummy. I took a hint from Mindy, and used the smaller nut cups to bake the cupcakes in. It was GREAT, I was able to fit 25 on a cookie sheet, and only had to run my oven for an hour. (Thanks, Mindy!) Let me tell you, if you have a lot of cupcakes to make, using the nut cups is the way to go.

We always do open house showers...it just seems to be easier for more of our large extended family to come if things are a little less structured. We had a great turn out...

Heidi and my cousin Melody...they are both having boys and due 2 weeks apart, so we just had to compare bellies!
(they look enough alike to be sisters, don't you think? Gotta love the strong DNA on my dad's side of the family!)

After the shower, Talia and I headed home. The sky was so stunning, with all the clouds, and the thunderstorms brewing over Layton, that I decided to get some pictures. I headed to the back of the Baptist church that sits on the top of the hill, and Talia and I walked to the edge to take some pics...

Getaway, Day 3

We slept in a little more today. When we got up, we headed up to Park City Mountain Resort. We had breakfast there, and bought tickets to do the Alpine Coaster and the Alpine slide. We rode the Coaster first...
From July 2010
It was WAYYYYYY fun. Then we rode the Alpine slide...which was pretty good. We left and went to the Olymic Park to redeem our Rain check on the zip line....We waited a long time in the sun on this day, and I got FRIED on my arms, but it was way fun. After our zip ride, we went to the outlets to pick up a couple more things we decided we wanted, then we headed home.

It was a really fun trip, and it was nice to have my mom all to myself for a couple of days.

Getaway, Day 2

We didn't rush on Thursday morning. After all, vacation means relaxing. After we woke up, we got ready, had breakfast, and headed up to the Olympic Sports Park. We bought our tickets to ride the Xtreme zip line and the Quicksilver slide, and walked down to the lift. We rode up...

We got stuck behind a couple of kids who slowed down too much, so we didn't get the full effect. We decided to "bounce back", and do both rides again. We bought our bounce back passes, and headed back up. We wanted to do Quicksilver first...our first error in judgement. There was a minor accident on the track, so to follow protocol they shut the entire thing down..and the operator had already taken and torn our tickets, so no chance for a refund. We waited...and finally got down. It was a lot more fun the second time, we went full speed and didn't get stopped. We rode back up to ride the zip, but the line was suddenly long, and the storm clouds were rolling in...they put a "lightening hold" on the rides...we took cover in the ski jump building...and then the rain started POURING. We ended up riding a shuttle back down, and wandered the museum for awhile. Finally the rain lightened enough that we made a break for the car. We drove to a little outdoor shopping center...we would have liked to explore, but the rain made that impossible. We stopped at a great little bakery called Kneaders for a snack...YUM!!!! We went back to our hotel and relaxed, watched some TV, and I took a little nap.

We had been invited to a baby shower for my sister, thrown by her in-laws. It was in Salt Lake, and not to far of a drive, so we wanted to drive down. It was really fun...

By the time we got back to Park City, it was getting late, so we decided to call it a night.

Getaway...Day 1

My mom and I took a little mini vacation this past week. We headed up to Park City for some shopping and fun...

We had a little slow start. When my mom came to pick me up, she noticed that one of her tires was low. We dropped by Les Schwab to get it checked out, and it had a nail in it...so we had to get the tire fixed. We were grateful we caught it before we headed up the canyon...

We arrived, grabbed some lunch, and headed to the Outlets. I got the kids some clothes, myself a wallet, sports bra, and a spatula (yes, I realize that's a little strange, but with all the baking I'm doing, I needed it). I also got to help my mom pick out some very cute new things....we had a great time. After we were done shopping, we thought we'd go check out the Olympic Sports park. Neither of us had been there, and we wanted to see what the activity prices were, as well as what was available. We saw a bunch of cool stuff...

Then we spent almost an hour watching the preliminaries of a ski jumping competition...it was really cool to watch.

This marmot wandered right into the middle of the ski jumping hill...right at the bottom where if he'd been hit, it probably would have killed him and injured the skier...thankfully he crossed without incident...

A side view of the jump...it's amazing how much air they get.

After we were done watching, we went up to Park City Resort. We wandered a bit, ate excellent mexican at the Baja Cantina, and then decided to walk main street.

I was a little disappointed in Main street. Many of the cool stores I remember from years past are gone...and I didn't find anything special in my favorites of the remaining stores. After we walked main street, we headed back to turn in for the night....
