Repo! The Genetic Opera

Cole and I spent my birthday weekend in Salt Lake.  We headed down around noon on Friday.  We went to the Gateway, had lunch, and shopped.  Later, we checked into our hotel room (Little America...we love it there!), then went down to the Fashion Place mall to do a little more shopping.  We went out for a nice dinner at The Bombay House, and then we hung out in our room for awhile until it was time to go.

Because the main reason we were staying overnight in SLC was to see  a shadowcast of Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Repo! is a "goth" opera.  It's music is rock and roll bordering on heavy metal, with some real opera mixed in.  The music is superb if you can appreciate the genre.  The story is fascinating...in the future, organ failure rate is very high and catastrophic to the human race.  A company called Geneco manufactures organs, and offers them on payment plans.  However, if you're 90 days past due, they send the Repo man to come repossess....

We've gone for the last 2 years.  This year was better than last year...it seems it's finally coming into it's own.  This year, I also got some excellent pictures...my camera keeps proving over and over how good it is in low light.

It was so much fun, I already can't wait to go back when they do it again next year.  After the show, we spent the night in Salt Lake, and headed back to Ogden in the morning.  I wasn't able to get my entire Saturday shift off, so I had to be back.

I had a great Birthday...35's been pretty good to me so far!!

6th Grade Graduation...

Kyle graduated from 6th Grade on May 27th.  They had a really nice ceremony, with a program put on by the kids, and yummy refreshments.

I went ridiculously early to get front row seats...and although I didn't cry, I did get a little teary thinking about the reality of it all.

Talia's Dance Recital

Talia has been taking dance since last September.  I put her in it mostly to give her something to help develop balance and coordination, as well as interact in a class type setting.  She has spent most of the time playing, so I was both excited and nervous for her dance recital.

She looks so grown up!

The girls lined up on stage...(That's Talia on the very end on the right).

Talia spends a good portion of her class playing in the mirrors, so I didn't exactly know what she would do once she got up on stage.  I was surprised and so excited to see her do her dance!  She knew all the moves, and did such a great job...and I confess, I cried because she really is no longer a toddler...she's a (big) little girl!

Cole got these better close-ups with his camera...I got distracted by my daughter actually dancing, and forgot to zoom.

After the girls performed, they went off stage, and received their year end awards...which was a trophy.
From May 2011

Talia was THRILLED to get her trophy...she's wanted one ever since she saw the ones on display in the waiting room at Spotlight Dance.  It even has her name on it.

It was really fun to see my baby perform.

I have to say, I love her interpretation.

Lagoon

Lagoon season is in full swing!  We went for the first time as an entire family last Saturday.  The weather was great....

Talia is tall enough to ride "The Bat" this year, and she has been dying to go, but Cole knew I wanted to be with her the first time.  She was so excited...

Alec sold out of his large skulls, sold all but one of his small skulls (and it was one that was a bit defective...it wouldn't stand up), and both Alec and Talia had a great time.  Success!!!

(Plus, we don't have to worry about it for 5 more years, and there's not plaster of paris all over my kitchen anymore :))

Shakespeare...The Finale

The 2nd night of Shakespeare started out really good.  Kyle's makeup job was even better than the first night...

Kyle did a great job on his part again.  I was really proud of him (again :))

Some better pics, now that I've figured out my camera a little more, and removed the smudge from my lens.

The cast seemed to lose their focus about halfway through the play.  A few missed cues, some flubbed lines...but overall it was great, and a really good experience for Kyle.

The Raingutter Regata.....

Last night's Pack Meeting was the Raingutter Regatta.  Alec was excited to compete.  He likes to win...sometimes a little too much....

After all the pictures, I discovered a smudge on my lens...probably left there by a certain little girl who likes to try to pry open the cover.  I'm pretty sure that's why my camera has been taking blurry pics....dang it.
I was worried that Alec would be really upset that he didn't win a trophy...but it turns out he was ok with only winning the one heat.  I was really proud of his sportsmanship.
