Getaway, Day 3

We slept in a little more today. When we got up, we headed up to Park City Mountain Resort. We had breakfast there, and bought tickets to do the Alpine Coaster and the Alpine slide. We rode the Coaster first...
From July 2010
It was WAYYYYYY fun. Then we rode the Alpine slide...which was pretty good. We left and went to the Olymic Park to redeem our Rain check on the zip line....We waited a long time in the sun on this day, and I got FRIED on my arms, but it was way fun. After our zip ride, we went to the outlets to pick up a couple more things we decided we wanted, then we headed home.

It was a really fun trip, and it was nice to have my mom all to myself for a couple of days.

Getaway, Day 2

We didn't rush on Thursday morning. After all, vacation means relaxing. After we woke up, we got ready, had breakfast, and headed up to the Olympic Sports Park. We bought our tickets to ride the Xtreme zip line and the Quicksilver slide, and walked down to the lift. We rode up...

We got stuck behind a couple of kids who slowed down too much, so we didn't get the full effect. We decided to "bounce back", and do both rides again. We bought our bounce back passes, and headed back up. We wanted to do Quicksilver first...our first error in judgement. There was a minor accident on the track, so to follow protocol they shut the entire thing down..and the operator had already taken and torn our tickets, so no chance for a refund. We waited...and finally got down. It was a lot more fun the second time, we went full speed and didn't get stopped. We rode back up to ride the zip, but the line was suddenly long, and the storm clouds were rolling in...they put a "lightening hold" on the rides...we took cover in the ski jump building...and then the rain started POURING. We ended up riding a shuttle back down, and wandered the museum for awhile. Finally the rain lightened enough that we made a break for the car. We drove to a little outdoor shopping center...we would have liked to explore, but the rain made that impossible. We stopped at a great little bakery called Kneaders for a snack...YUM!!!! We went back to our hotel and relaxed, watched some TV, and I took a little nap.

We had been invited to a baby shower for my sister, thrown by her in-laws. It was in Salt Lake, and not to far of a drive, so we wanted to drive down. It was really fun...

By the time we got back to Park City, it was getting late, so we decided to call it a night.

Getaway...Day 1

My mom and I took a little mini vacation this past week. We headed up to Park City for some shopping and fun...

We had a little slow start. When my mom came to pick me up, she noticed that one of her tires was low. We dropped by Les Schwab to get it checked out, and it had a nail in it...so we had to get the tire fixed. We were grateful we caught it before we headed up the canyon...

We arrived, grabbed some lunch, and headed to the Outlets. I got the kids some clothes, myself a wallet, sports bra, and a spatula (yes, I realize that's a little strange, but with all the baking I'm doing, I needed it). I also got to help my mom pick out some very cute new things....we had a great time. After we were done shopping, we thought we'd go check out the Olympic Sports park. Neither of us had been there, and we wanted to see what the activity prices were, as well as what was available. We saw a bunch of cool stuff...

Then we spent almost an hour watching the preliminaries of a ski jumping competition...it was really cool to watch.

This marmot wandered right into the middle of the ski jumping hill...right at the bottom where if he'd been hit, it probably would have killed him and injured the skier...thankfully he crossed without incident...

A side view of the jump...it's amazing how much air they get.

After we were done watching, we went up to Park City Resort. We wandered a bit, ate excellent mexican at the Baja Cantina, and then decided to walk main street.

I was a little disappointed in Main street. Many of the cool stores I remember from years past are gone...and I didn't find anything special in my favorites of the remaining stores. After we walked main street, we headed back to turn in for the night....

My children are Dolphins....

I used to say that my kids were fish. All 3 of them Love the water, and have almost since birth. However, a thought occured to me this week...they don't just love being in the water, they love PLAYING in the water. Thus, they are dolphins...

Talia can now jump off the diving board and swim to the side of the pool without her swim vest (under very close supervision :)). We think she's the youngest of the grandchildren ever to do that...although part of that is probably that we didn't LET some of the older ones even try!

Beus Pond

Beus pond is one of mine and Cole's favorite places. When we were dating, we loved to take picnics up there, walk the trails, sneak off trail for a few minutes....we got engaged there, we took our engagment pictures there. We have a lot of history there....

We went there a lot when Kyle was little too. However, by the time Alec came along, the park vibe wasn't so friendly. It became a hangout for an unsavory crowd, and we felt uncomfortable taking our young, impressionable boys there...not to mention that I didn't feel entirely safe. We haven't been there in a few years...

On the 24th, Talia was sick in the morning. By the evening, however, she was feeling better and a little stir crazy. Cole and I needed to run to Lowes, so we took her along. She needed an outlet for her renewed energy, and because she loves birds so much, we decided to detour to Beus.

I was so glad we did! The park has been cleaned up since we last went. There were "normal" activities going on...walking the trail, families with kids, feeding the ducks...it was great.

There was so much "cotton" from the cottonwoods, it almost looked like there was a blanket of snow. I got some really cool pics...here's a teaser, check out my picture blog for some others...

Lagoon at Night

I didn't have to keep my call shift on Thursday night. We decided to take advantage by taking the kids to Lagoon after dinner.

We got there just after 7, the time we are usually leaving. It was packed, but not nearly as hot as I thought it was going to be.

The kids played in the water while I filled up my mug...

As always, our first stop was the Jumping Dragon...Talia's favorite thing to ride first.

Why is it that none of my children can ever look at the camera and smile at the same time?

We decided to take one of the last opportunities to see the "Cirque Innosta Presents L'orage" show...we saw a contortionist, a "loose rope walker", a girl who did balances and tricks on a hanging ring, and a really cool guy who balanced on tubes and rings...

Hitting the Roller Coaster....when we got off the Roller coaster, everything was shutting down. We hurried to get treats bought for the ride home.
Surprisingly, none of the kids fell asleep on the way home. Too involved with eating their yummy treats...We all crashed pretty quickly at home, and the boys slept til almost 9 am yesterday morning...that's sooooo late for them.

We'll definitely have to do the night thing again, it was really fun!

Faith

I've learned over the past couple of days that my Faith is strong.

Despite glitches in the logistics, Alec was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints yesterday. We are so proud of him, and his decision to be baptized.

From July 2010

Thankfully, none of the trauma/drama that was part of the day touched my son. He didn't even know there were problems, and when we asked him last night what his favorite part was, he said the warm water and going under. When we asked him if he had any bad parts, he said an emphatic NO!. It makes it easier on me to accept the imperfections of the day, knowing that he thought it was perfect. And Mindy's lesson today healed my heart a little more (thanks, Min).

After the baptism, we had a little celebration at our house with dinner. Then, my parents opened their pool for an "evening" swim, a special treat that the kids love. We all cooled off from the hot day (and the hot chapel in our building). We did a lot of Jump and Catch from the diving board, and everyone had fun!
