Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo

My Grandfather was the Grand Marshall of the Ogden Pioneer Days this year.  We were so proud of him!  He was able to get some pretty good Rodeo tickets for all the nights of the rodeo, and I was so excited when my Grandma offered me the tickets for Thursday night.  I always loved the rodeo, and I wanted to share it with my kids.  Cole was still out of town for work, so the four of us headed to downtown Ogden...

The kids loved getting balloons from one of the candidates for mayor...Kyle and Alec promptly let go to watch them sail away, but Talia kept hers.

It was a fun night.  I had a great time, Kyle had a great time, and Talia did really well for her age.  She got bored on and off, but mostly enjoyed it.  Alec, however, hated it.  He complained the entire time, and went on a little tirade as we left about how it was the worst thing he'd ever been dragged to.  Needless to say, he got a little lecture about being appreciative when people try to do nice things for you, even when you don't necessarily enjoy it.

And the best part of the night came when we got home...we were just getting settled when Cole came in...he'd gotten off work early and driven all day to try to beat us home...we were really excited to see him and have him home safe...for a few days anyway.

Harry Potter...

I was so excited to take the boys to Harry Potter 7-2 while Cole was away for work.  We went on Thursday July 21st.  My great friend Rachael was sweet and took Talia for the morning...

Weber State Fireworks

With my husband gone to Arizona for work, the kids and I decided to play as much as possible.  I was excited to take them to see the Weber State Fireworks, since I had to work the 4th and we didn't get to see any professional fireworks displays that day.

We headed up to our spot at dusk....

Alec ran into a friend from school, and they ran around pretending to be Dementors...

(they tried to get Kyle to be a Dementor so they could practice producing Patronus's, but he thought that was a little beneath his 12 year old self).

I took a chance and went fully manual, attempting to adjust my settings as I went.  I got some really good shots, I was very happy!

Nine

From July 2011

Alec turned 9 today.  Where has the time gone?  What happened to my little guy, my "Monster Boo", my snuggle buddy?

I spent a lot of time this morning thinking about my pregnancy and delivery with him...it was a difficult pregnancy, a difficult day of labor, but the actual delivery went very well.  He's still my most difficult child...but I woudn't have it any other way.

Alec has made great progress this year, but the most amazing progress he's made is that he now eats.  Actual food.  He's greatly expanded the kinds and types of food he will eat, and he's putting on healthy weight and height.  When he was 2 his pediatrician told me he'd dropped off the growth charts for weight, and I needed to feed him more.  I was torn between laughing and crying as I answered, "If he doesn't like it or doesn't want it, he throws up.  You make him eat."  Alec has also mostly mastered his gag reflex, and frequent cleaning up of throw up during meals is a thing of the past.

Alec loves to pretend, and can live in his own head for hours.  I was worried about him making friends because he's in his own head so much of the time...but this year he found a group of boys a lot like him, and they have a great time together.

We had a birthday party for him at my mom's pool.

We had popsicles, lemonade, and chocolate chip cookies (Alec's favorite).  It was proclaimed that I make the best chocolate chip cookies ever :)

Later that evening, we had Alec's favorite food for dinner (Hamburgers)

Then Grandma and Grandpa joined us for Chocolate Chip cookies and presents...

Alec was so excited to open his gift from Mom and Dad, he's been asking for weeks for an iPod like Kyle's (a Nano) and was sure he was getting it...
From July 2011

Then he was disappointed when he thought it was just an mp3 player...(he didn't realize the newer iPod Nano's were small and had touchscreens)
From July 2011

I asked him why he was disappointed and he explained...and was thrilled to find out that he had the newer model...(I guess the middle child is always happy when they get something newer than the oldest child has ;) )

Grandma and Grandpa got him a docking station/radio/alarm clock...

Then it was time for the candles...

I baked him his own 6 inch cookie...
