Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk...2010

Today was the day.  I worked last night.  I had hoped to leave right at 3 in order to get a little more sleep, but that didn't happen, of course.  My mother in law Toni picked me up promptly at 7, and I'd only had about 2 hours of sleep.  Oh well.

We got to Liberty park, got our "In Honor of" stickers, and met up with our team.  We were Team "Cheer for a Cure", put together by my niece Alyssa.  She is a cheerleader at TH Bell, and since her grandmother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer relatively recently, she really wanted to do something special with her cheer squad this October.  They were able to raise more than $1500.00, I'm so proud of them!

After a brief Opening ceremonies, we enjoyed the walk.  It was very well organized and planned, and it was a pleasure.

I was very emotional throughout the morning.  I walked for Mary, my mom, who is a 13 year survivor.  For Dona, Cole's Grandma, who is a 6 year Survivor.  And for Talia, my daughter, so hopefully she will never need to worry about this disease.  Just thinking about all that is enough to bring me to tears.

The adrenaline wore off by the time I got home...I crashed into bed for a couple of hours.

It was worth it.

Well deserved nap I'd say! What a great cause for those cheerleaders.
