Mommy Musings....

Just a few things I've been thinking about....

We've had a wonderful thing happen in our house...ever since Alec's school class discussed nutrition, he's been very focused on food. The nutritional content, if it's good for him or not, etc. The end result, however, has been amazing, and something I didn't think would ever happen. He's eating. Real Food. Without throwing up. Without protest. Remember, this is my child that lived on Peanut Butter, Milk, and bread from age 2 to age 6. Now he's eating hamburgers, spaghetti, all the stuff the rest of our family is eating...and he's trying things without throwing up. We can actually eat as a family...where everyone is eating the same meal. It's amazing, and still every night we get to sit down together as a family, when I see all 3 of my children eating, without protest, I marvel.
(Many people have wondered why we didn't just FORCE him to eat or let him go hungry..the problem was, he would go hungry. We tried that once, and he didn't eat. He dropped off the growth charts, and his pediatrician told us we had to get him to eat. Even now, he's a size 8 pant in length, but his waist still fits into size 6's. )

So, the other night while I was at work, Cole was fixing sloppy joe's for the kids. Of course, because Alec is still a little food sensitive, he had to call them Manwich's (because that's what the school calls them, and he knew he liked them at school). Talia was really upset, she didn't want a "Man"wich. She wanted a "Girl"wich. I've been cracking up over that...

So, my arm is healing nicely, if not prettily.

Before: 20 minutes after the dog bite...
From May 2010

Today, which is 4 1/2 days later
From June 2010

Today it's finally not sore, just tender. It was pretty impressively purple a couple of days ago, but with work, I didn't think about taking a picture. My mother insisted I look up info on dog bites just to make sure I didn't need to have it looked at...holy crap, I feel lucky that it the dog barely broke my skin, and only bruised me. It could have been so, so much worse....

Lunch today was a shirtless lunch....
From June 2010
The boys insist on sleeping shirtless in the summer (it drives me nuts, but it's not a battle I want to fight), and we don't get dressed around here until after lunch unless we have to be someplace. Talia was all showered for the day, but when she decided she wanted "macenelli" for lunch (meaning ravioli) She insisted on taking her shirt off so it wouldn't get messy. I just had to get a pic of my 3 kids...

Summer vacation has been really good so far. We've had a minimum of fighting, and yesterday Kyle watched Talia all morning so that I could sleep after working. He got her breakfast, played with her, took her potty, everything...and kept her quiet enough that I could sleep. It was amazing. I love my great kids!

Maybe I should have Hayden and Alec play together. Hayden is doing the same thing with eating. I don't make him eat, but if he doesn't like what is made, he just wont eat. I'm hoping he grows out of this stage soon.

Wow! What a great big brother. Happy that Alec is trying more stuff out. Makes job as mom so much easier!
